{spa-licious saturday}

Photobucket

Have Tired Eyes? I love anything that has to do with cucumbers on my eyes they are so refreshing and very relaxing.

CUCUMBER EYE GEL #1
Ingredients:
1/4 large cucumber
1 ounce aloe vera gel
Puree the cucumber in a blender (leave a little pulp), strain the mixture into a glass bowl until you have at least 2 ounces. Spoon in just a tad of the pulp from the strainer). Add the aloe vera to the cucumber puree in the bowl and mix lightly. Pour into a clean, sterilized container. After cleansing face, stir mixture gently and apply with a cotton ball to undereye area.  Avoid the eyeball. The shelf life of this product is very limited by the fresh cucumber. It should be used within a few days, and kept refrigerated between uses.

CUCUMBER EYE GEL #2
1 Tbs. aloe vera gel
1 tsp. fresh cucumber juice
¼ tsp. cornstarch
1 Tbs. witch hazel
Mix together aloe, cucumber and cornstarch. Heat until just boiling, about 1 minute in microwave. Remove from heat source and stir in witch hazel. Stir well and allow the mixture to cool completely. You should have a clear, jelly-like cream. Spoon into a small clean jar. To use: Dab a small amount under your eyes and be careful not to rub or pull the delicate skin under your eyes.  Keep in cool place. Makes 1 oz.

{Spa-licious Saturday}

Time to love on our dry cracked stinky abused feet! ok maybe that just describes my feet. I loved this spa-licious recipe because milk makes your skin feel so soft. I've sometimes put this on my face warmed of course and it feels fabulous.

Lovely Pedicure
You'll need:
2 cups fresh-mashed pineapple
2 cups fresh-mashed papaya
2 cups hot milk
Test the milk's temperature on your wrist and, if it doesn't feel too hot, dump all three ingredients into a large bowl. Soak your tootsies for 20 minutes, rinse and then top them off with a basic lotion. "You can do this once a month.

{Spa-licious Saturday}

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far! Cheers for some great spa-licious recipes! we're pampering our faces this week...for some weird reason I love anything that has honey in it!

Avocado Carrot Cream Mask
You'll need:
1 avocado, mashed
1 carrot, cooked and mashed
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 egg, beaten
3 tablespoons honey
Blend everything together in a large bowl. Apply to your face and let it set for 15 minutes before washing off. The mask is rich in vitamin E, beta-carotene, antioxidants, calcium, and protein.

Lemon Lip Gloss
You'll need:
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
1 teaspoon aloe vera
2 teaspoons grated beeswax
1 tablespoon pure almond extract
6 drops lemon essential oil
this lip gloss is great for little girls who are crazy about makeup and grandmas who aren't ready to see their darlings with ruby-red lips. Melt the beeswax in a double boiler, remove from the heat and, while stirring constantly, add the honey, aloe vera, almond extract, and vitamin E. Add the lemon essential oil last, let the mixture cool and pucker up.

You can't go wrong with chocolate right?

Chocolate Facial Mask
This creamy mask is an excellent moisturizer, leaving your skin baby soft. Recommended for normal skin.

1/3 cup cocoa powder
3 tbsp. heavy cream
2 tsp. cottage cheese
¼ cup honey
3 tsp. oatmeal

Mix all ingredients together (a bullet blender is ideal) and smooth onto face. Relax for ten 10 minutes, then wash off with warm water.
In case you're wondering like I was if chocolate was good for my skin...

It's true! Antioxidant compounds in cocoa, called flavanols, improve artery health by boosting blood flow, and that boost may be good for your skin, too.

Researchers discovered this chocolate benefit in a study of women who consumed half a cup of cocoa (containing 329 milligrams of flavanols per serving, the amount in a 3-½ ounce serving of dark chocolate) daily for 12 weeks. At the end of the study, the women experienced less skin dryness, scaling, and roughness compared to the beginning of the study. Also, their skin was thicker, exhibited improved blood flow, and was even more resistant to sun damage. Pretty Delightful if you ask me!

{Spa-licious Saturday}

ladies...it's time to give our hair some much needed attention...Just in case I'm the only one that didn't have a clue what jojoba oil was I've attached some info about it. I found it at our local natural health food store. Along with every other kind of oil you can imagine..who knew that all existed!

Pre-Shampoo Rinse

You'll need:
1/4 cup jojoba oil
1/4 cup canola oil
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup sesame oil

Combine all the ingredients into an empty — and clean! — plastic ketchup bottle. Apply the mixture to your scalp and all your hair, cover your head with a plastic shower cap and let it set for at least 30 minutes. Then shampoo and condition as usual.

Benefits of jojoba oil

  • Provides all day moisturization – jojoba oil doesn’t evaporate like water based moisturizers can.
  • It is theorized, but not yet proven, that because jojoba oil is so similar to human skin oil, it can "trick" the skin into thinking it has produced enough oil and thus balance oil production.
  • Very stable – jojoba oil does not become rancid or lose antioxidants even after long periods of storage.
  • Spreads well and absorbs well.

{Spa-licious Saturday}

New idea for creating your own little spa-licious Saturday!

Spectacular Bath Cookies
You'll need:
2 cups finely ground sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 tablespoons light oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
2 eggs
5 to 6 drops essential oil of your choice
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine all ingredients and form into a dough. Taking a teaspoon of dough at a time, roll it gently into a ball in the palms of your hands, then place the "cookies" in lines on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake your bath cookies for ten minutes or until they are lightly browned. Do not overbake. Allow the bath cookies to cool completely. To use, drop two cookies into a warm bath and allow to dissolve. Yields enough for 12 baths.
